Welcome!

Emergency pedagogy is first aid for the soul.

It’s a specific understanding of what trauma is and does to our body, soul and spirit and how to get specifically children out of that freeze and numbness after the initial shock period.

It aims to stabilize people who have experienced a traumatic event like natural catastrophes such as earthquakes, floods, fires etc and also man made ones like war, crime and personal loss.

It helps to prevent PTSD and other chronic illnesses (mental and physical) that can root in and/or occur after trauma.

It uses art, rhythm, movement and joy to do all of the above and helps to connect the two brain halves that got disconnected during the traumatic event.

It is a holistic approach to make things whole again, to collect the fragments in a mosaic that will help you to move on and integrate.

Who Are We?

We are a group of people with different backgrounds here from Maui that is inspired by the concept of emergency pedagogy and currently in the process of forming a Hawaiian team to collaborate with over 100 initiatives in over 35 countries worldwide in the network of emergency pedagogy without borders.

This forming team is striving to learn as much as we can from our already existing Hawaiian projects and their specific take on trauma and humbly offer this first aid methodology as a complementary approach.

Our aim is to raise awareness of the importance of “first aid for the soul” possibilities and train as many people who are interested to have more equipped first responders that work with children already when future disasters strike.
